Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Whether you’ve lived in Virginia’s First District for decades or have recently become one of my constituents, I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and share a little about the experiences that have shaped my approach to public service.
Before serving in Congress, I spent more than 26 years working for the Virginia Department of Health. As a marine scientist and public health professional, I studied water quality, shellfish sanitation, and environmental health throughout the Chesapeake Bay watershed.
That experience taught me an important lesson that continues to guide me today: good public policy should be grounded in facts, thoughtful analysis, and practical solutions that improve people’s lives.
Public service has been the focus of my career. Before coming to Congress, I served as Mayor of Montross and represented Virginia’s 99th District in the House of Delegates. Since first being elected to Congress in 2007, I have worked to strengthen our military, support Virginia’s economy, protect the Chesapeake Bay, improve healthcare, and help ensure future generations have the opportunities they deserve.
Today, I serve as Vice Chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee and continue my work on the House Armed Services Committee, where I focus on national defense, military readiness, and the well-being of the men and women who serve our country.
No matter what issue comes before Congress, my goal remains the same: to listen to the people I represent, work with anyone willing to solve problems, and deliver results for Virginia’s First District.
