Students Deserve the Freedom to Succeed

Note from Rob:

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

For too long, Washington has acted as though there is only one path to success: a four-year college degree.

I disagree.

Every student has different talents, different goals, and different dreams. Some pursue a university education. Others choose technical school, career training, apprenticeships, or professional certifications that lead directly to good-paying careers.

The important thing is that families—not Washington—should decide which path is right for them.

That’s why I authored the Freedom to Invest in Tomorrow’s Workforce Act, legislation that was included in the Working Families Tax Cuts and signed into law.

My legislation expands the use of 529 education savings plans so families can now use those savings not only for college, but also for career training, technical schools, professional licenses, and industry-recognized credentials.

Virginia’s economy depends on skilled workers—from welders and electricians to cybersecurity professionals, nurses, aviation mechanics, and advanced manufacturers. These careers often require specialized training rather than a traditional four-year degree.

Families should be able to save for whichever path best prepares their children for success.

I’ll continue fighting for policies that expand opportunity, strengthen our workforce, and give parents more flexibility—not more bureaucracy.

Sincerely,

Rob Wittman
