Wittman Opposes Tax Hikes and Inflationary Spending

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Wittman (VA-01) released the following statement after voting against the Senate Amendment to H.R. 5376 – Inflation Reduction Act of 2022:

“I understand firsthand the harmful impacts inflation has on American families, especially as I travel throughout the First Congressional District to meet with individuals and businesses. Unfortunately, despite the title given by Democrats, the legislation that passed through the House today will do nothing, if not worsen, our current inflation crisis. At a time when families and businesses are struggling to make ends meet, the last thing they need is further wasteful government spending that will result in more inflation, fewer jobs, and slower growth.

“This legislation also implements taxes as our economy enters a recession, the burden of which will be carried by working families in the form of higher prices, fewer jobs, and lower wages. We cannot tax and spend our way out of inflation, which remains the top problem our nation is facing. Instead, we must push for legislation such as the Reduce Exacerbated Inflation Negatively Impacting the Nation (REIN IN) Inflation Act, which would require the Biden administration to publish the inflationary impact of executive actions before enacting them. Americans have a right to know the effects of excessive spending packages on their budgets, and the bill put through the House today is no way to revive an already struggling economy. I will continue to push back against harmful excessive spending and push for policies that are pro-growth, pro-business, and pro-American.”
