Message from Rob Wittman:
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
I’m honored to share that I have been named a 2026 Champion of Science by The Science Coalition, recognizing my work to support scientific research and innovation. This recognition is especially meaningful because it reflects the incredible research happening right here in Virginia at institutions like Virginia Commonwealth University and Old Dominion University, which nominated me for the award.
After decades working in the public health field, I have seen firsthand the difference that basic scientific research can make in improving lives and strengthening our communities. Scientific research doesn’t just drive discovery; it creates jobs, strengthens our economy, and prepares the next generation of innovators here in Virginia.
I remain committed to supporting federal investments that empower researchers, strengthen the STEM workforce, and ensure the United States remains at the forefront of discovery and innovation.
Science has shaped my own career. I earned my degree in biology from Virginia Tech, where I worked with Arctic ice cores studying climate data. Before coming to Congress, I spent more than 20 years as a shellfish specialist, monitoring water quality and environmental health issues throughout the Chesapeake Bay watershed.
Since coming to Congress, I have made advancing scientific research and protecting our natural resources a top priority. Just last year, my bill, the America’s Conservation Enhancement (ACE) Act, was signed into law. This legislation strengthens conservation efforts across the country and helps protect the Chesapeake Bay and the natural resources that are vital to Virginia’s First District.
While I am grateful to be named a Champion of Science, my work is far from finished. I will continue supporting policies that strengthen America’s scientific community and promote the research and innovation needed to address our nation’s most pressing challenges.
Virginia is home to some of the nation’s leading research institutions and laboratories. I look forward to continuing to work with universities, students, and researchers across the Commonwealth to strengthen our scientific leadership and create new opportunities here at home.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve you in Congress.
Sincerely,
